King Friday 'Married Alive' Full Length CD King Friday picks up right where Fay Wray left off. Or do they? I think King Friday was a band first. Who Cares? This album is the bee's balls. 14 great songs from some of the originators of Florida's underground punk scene. These are some of the dudes that started it all. Songs about... well... drinking, girls, and other stupid stuff old people shouldn't be singing about. It's absolutely wonderful. If you play guitar, I bet track 8 makes you sad with the realization that you will never write such tasteful guitar licks.

Shang-A-Lang 'Sad Magic' LP Take the recordings of Sexy and Weird Love makers, and feelings of summertime that never grow old, put them in a blender and that kinda gets you close to the sounds of Shang-A-Lang. Punk that's pop with nothing but good times and happy songs about being sad. A common denominator for anyone's taste in music with their snappy tunes that makes you feel like this very moment is the time of your life. This band will have you convinced that being depressed is probably the most fun thing you can do and can turn any frown up side down. Depriving yourself from these tunes is just sad, but these songs can make you happy again...

Pretty Boy Thorson and the Falling Angels / Dan Padilla Split 7 inch One original and one cover of each others songs. Both bands formed in Basements and Underground punk houses in the U.S. The title track of the first song, "A Song About Hope, And The Current Lack Thereof", should give you an Idea of what these songs are about: Depression, alcoholism, poverty, and a disappointment in the U.S. Government. These are truly heartfelt songs that would stand up to the best of anything out there. If you like American Idol, then this is probably not for you.

Hot New Mexicans 'Well...Um...Err...Uh...' 7 inch EP I haven't heard a single song by them that doesn't float my boat. There's nothing hit or miss about this band with their attention keeping lyrics and catchy riffs. If you have A.D.D., this is the band for you because it will be difficult to skip to the next song, and that's a good thing. 4 new ones.

Dan Padilla 'Foosball Club' Collection CD Three Piece from San Diego featuring members from Tiltwheel, Altaira and The Time. Dan Padilla is a band, not a man, sort of a supergroup if you will, and they sound like three drunks from San Diego. Clearly the best straight edge record of all time.

Dude Jams / Shang-A-Lang / Gordon Gano's Army / Dan Padilla Split 7 inch One song from each artist. Dude Jams is one dude, a Dave Grohl of the underground punk scene if you will. Shang-A-Lang is taking over the deserts of the Southwest with their wonderfully catchy songs about life. Gordon Gano's Army would hold a candle to the best of Gen X mixed with This Bike Is A Pipebomb. Dan Padilla brings another song of Human Rights.

Hot New Mexicans 'Wah' 7 inch EP The Hot New Mexicans prove that indie rock has just been in the wrong hands. Boring, boring hands. It's nice to hear punk rockers unafraid to stretch their musical tastes without completely smothering that initial, unmistakable fire. For fans of Carrie Nations and The Measure [SA].

Dan Padilla / Madison Bloodbath Split 7 inch Dan Padilla: with two-thirds of Tiltwheel and a drummer who came from nowhere and is rulin', the ingredients are there: happy tones, lyrics about dismal lives lived fully, gruff voices, wickedly addictive, dynamic guitar work, and the feeling that everything's so fucked, so blown clean through, it's almost good. Madison Bloodbath: in line with Hot Water Music / Dukes of Hillsborough / Gainesville by way of California. They sure as hell can nail songs into place and make sure the corners are true.

Off With Their Heads / Tiltwheel Split 7 inch Split 7 inch, split release, you might as well just split a handy case with a good friend and listen to this record till you're both three sheets to the wind. This is two amazing bands doing what they do: writing about real life and how unpleasant and unnerving it can be.

Fuckboyz 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?' CD This is a collection of all of the Fuckboyz releases, along with a bunch of previously unreleased tracks. It covers a pretty wide range of styles, which might be hard for some people at first, but stick with it because it's the range that makes it impressive and keeps it fresh after repeated listens. If you don't find yourself singing along to "Rock'n'roll Problem," there's seriously something wrong with you. Oh, and for the record, Fuckboyz is the band that went on to become Hickey. Do you like Hickey? Then you need this. If you don't like Hickey, you're probably stupid and don't like jokes.

Dan Padilla / Chinese Telephones Split 7 inch Dan Padilla: With hearts as big as hot air balloons, morals as immaculate as a surgeon's tools, and livers as shattered as the soil in a battlefield, I don't know if I should cry, crack the seal on another bottle to forget another day before it starts, or just sing along once again. Dan Padilla, the band, is comprised of three individuals, two of which I know are solid gold: Tiltwheel's self-depreciating punk laureate Davey Quinn and Altaira's self-depreciating secret weapon J Wang. It's punk that could be soul. It could be country. It's versatile. It doesn't contradict the spirit of either Naked Raygun or Otis Redding while embracing both in completely inobvious ways. Burritofornia will ever been in their debt. I've played the two songs on their side fifty times so far. It makes my sadness happy and helps remind me that I'm not alone no matter how empty I sometimes feel. Chinese Telephones: They broke up, reformed, and have switched through members. You aren't able to notice the behind-the-scenes shuffling on these two songs though. Call me a blasphemer or a revisionist, but I put the Chinese Telephones and Rivethead neck and neck with the best of Screeching Weasel. Hell, I'll even say I like the Chinese Telephones more now cause they're still putting out exciting songs and not an endless parade of confusingly chosen best-of samplers. Essential split.
